From a researchers point of view, "there's no such thing as internet". Most people, even journalists, think by using Google they are searching the internet. That's wrong. Google (and the other search engines) only provide a partial copy of a very small part of the world wide web. The deep web, the social networks, the darknet are not covered by search engines. Researching these huge areas of information needs totally different methods und tools. How to find databases? Which kinds of tools can we use to research social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other? Wide parts of the social web can't be found in search engines. And, of course, same with the "Darknet". The more you know about the structure of the internet, the more effective your searches will be.
