Analysing diversity in the newsroom

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

We have a lack of diversity in newsrooms leading to a lack of diversity in reporting. We are even lacking reliable data on diversity. One reason is that newsrooms do not track the ethnic background of their employees. Here we want to discuss why newsroom diversity is beneficial for journalism and ways to measure and strengthen it. In Germany there is an ongoing pilot project to collect data on newsroom diversity in Germany. We will look at similar journalistic and scientific projects in Europe and elsewhere. The session aims to enable an exchange of experience on newsroom diversity in Europe and discuss possible projects and collaborations on the topic.
