“You might never see your child again… if you call the labour inspection”. What goes on behind the neat façade of a Belgian-Bulgarian elderly care business? A group of young Belgian and Dutch reporters started digging into Seniorcare24, a firm that flies in cash-strapped Bulgarian women to take care of Belgian elderly around the clock. They joined up with senior Bulgarian journalist Stanimir Vaglenov - an expert on crime and corruption – and soon find themselves uncovering a fraudulent scheme of labour exploitation. Their work showed how vulnerable Bulgarian women pay the price for a failing labour law enforcement across Europe.
