Before embarking on months of research, how do you know that it is the right story? At Investigate Europe Juliet Ferguson has developed a checklist for team members to go through when preparing the pitch of a new topic for the team. In the EIC network a model has evolved, where EIC journalists have become "network editors" in their own newsroom, so a 2-way pitching system was developed to constantly bring stories from the newsroom to the network, or from the network to the newsroom. Nils Hanson has decades of experience of pitching and selecting topics for investigative stories and has a systematic approach to story selection. How much do you need to convince partner media? What is a good theme for at big cross-border investigation, and how do you pitch it?
